Meet KUMDO(KENDO)
Kumdo, its literal meaning is ‘The Way of the Swords’. Created in the 15th century to train warriors in way of using sword. Modern Kumdo still preserve most of its original tradition by teaching students to develop strong spirits, healthy body and sharp mind. Kumdo has no gender barriers or physical limitations. Therefore it is easily able to be practiced by anyone without distinction of age and ability.
Kumdo is practiced by using a bamboo sword(Shinai) for striking others and Oak swords for exercising forms. When competing each other, participants has to wear armor (Bogu) for protecting their head, trunk, groin and hand. |
THE CONCEPT OF KUMDO
In short, the concept of Kumdo is to discipline the human character through applying the principle of the swords.
THE PURPOSE OF PRACTICING KUMDO
To mold the mind and body,
To cultivate a vigorous spirit,
And through correct and strict training,
To strive for improvement in the art of Kumdo,
To respect in human nature with courtesy and honor.,
To associate with others with sincerity,
To permanent pursue of the cultivation of oneself.
ABOVE WILL ENABLE SOMEONE
To love his/her country and society,
To contribute to the development of culture
And to promote peace and prosperity among all people.
